Off-road vehicles in the Green Mountain National Forest?
A recent poll shows overwhelming public support for wilderness on the
Green Mountain National Forest. 73% of Vermonters surveyed support
establishment of new wilderness areas on the forest.

As the pressures of population and development continue to squeeze
the quiet life out of Vermont's wilderness and wild places, our natural heritage and rural traditions suffer. As we look to the protections offered by the Green Mountain National Forest (GMNF) for hiking, hunting and fishing, camping, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, birding, and nature study, we find that the current stewards of our wild treasures are poised to allow "summer ORVs" (off-road vehicles) on GMNF
land. You can review the Green Mountain National Forest proposed management strategies at http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/gmfl/nepa_planning/plan_revision/deis/index.htm If you think that motorized recreation is an assault on the last, best wild places in Vermont, consider speaking out at a public hearing or submitting written comments.
Submit written comments before June 30th.

Or write a letter in support of quiet wilderness to your local newspaper. Call to Action by the Friends of Green River Reservoir This is an URGENT request for your immediate action to help insure that the proposed Long Range Management Plan (LRMP) for Green River Reservoir State Park is not weakened. With a few minor changes, the FGRR strongly supports the adaptation of the proposed LRMP. The deadline for comments on the LRMP is April 29. It is important you express your support of the plan.
You can review (and print) a copy of the plan at: http://www.vtfpr.org/lands/greenriver/index.htm. These are key points to mention in a letter or e-mail:
- Support of the LRMP and its preservation of the wilderness like character of GRRSP
- Acknowledge the exemplary public process the Vermont Dept. of Forests, Parks, and Recreation used in developing the plan over two years, involving citizens with a range of interests
- Mention the unsustainable overuse of the Reservoir before it became a state park, and how great an improvement the responsible regulation under VDFPR is
Your comments should be sent to:

Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation
